Electrification

The need to reduce the use of fossil fuels has led more and more applications to shift towards electric power. Our constant commitment, along with significant investments in human resources and equipment, has allowed us to meet this challenge efficiently, relying on the experience of an R&D department and advanced testing facilities. We are involved in various Research Projects and collaborate with leading OEMs in the industry, mainly focusing on e-Powertrain issues, addressing different topics with interest and effectiveness. Our state-of-the-art testing facilities enable us to test and validate cells, modules, and battery packs from clients in any engineering sector.

Battery Testing

Within the Federico II University Complex in San Giovanni a Teduccio (NA), we have installed two battery testing facilities. The goal is to test and validate batteries intended for various uses and applications, primarily lithium-ion (but not limited to). In the laboratory, we can cover tests on individual cells, modules, and battery packs up to 500 kW of power. Thanks to the extreme flexibility and programmability of the equipment in the room, we can also test components of other nature (contactors, switches, etc.).

The proposed activities for batteries are as follows:

Testing and validation of batteries up to 500 kW
Testing on batteries for electric and hybrid vehicles, according to the guidelines of the main industry standards and manuals
Support for prototyping battery modules/packs
Testing in a climatic chamber with Hazard level up to 5 (EUCAR classification)
Testing according to customer specifications

High Voltage testing structure

Typically used for modules and battery packs of significant importance, the high-voltage test structure is located in an outdoor space of the university complex. It allows conducting tests up to 1200 V and 500 kW, thanks to two regenerative electronic devices. The two climatic chambers, housed in containers, with an internal volume of 24m³ per chamber, allow testing large battery packs, typical of supercars or serving photovoltaic systems. Battery cooling is ensured by two 9 kW battery conditioning systems.

Low Voltage testing structure

Typically used for battery cells and modules, the low-voltage test structure is located in an indoor space of the university complex, adjacent to an office area. There are two independent test systems, one dedicated to cells and the other to battery modules. The maximum test voltage is 60 V, with powers up to 32 kW. Climatic chambers of 600 and 720 liters create suitable environmental conditions for battery testing. For battery modules, there is also a battery conditioning system to heat/cool the modules under test.

NEOS Project

NEOS (Natante Elettrico Off Shore) is a research project funded by the Italian Ministry of Economic Development (MISE), in which Daca-i has participated along with two partners already operating in the nautical industry. The company's task was to develop a high-performance hybrid powertrain with a battery pack of 150 kWh and a maximum propulsion power of 450 kW. The propulsion system consists of two synchronous electric motors with permanent magnets and an internal combustion engine, all positioned on an innovative transmission capable of managing various operating modes: electric-only, thermal-only, hybrid, and recharge.
